Success Story

Meet Dave, a teacher who has been coming to fit20 since January 2020. He's always been a keen runner, but he'd never done any sort of strength training or any work in the gym. It was actually by recommendation from his girlfriend at the time, now wife, who said that he should come to fit20 and see how it goes.

There's a level of accountability that you really want to do your best and you can't give up or you won't give up until you absolutely have to!

Here's what Dave has to say about fit20.
Why does fit20 work for you?
'We were able to pick from a lot of different times and find one that suits us, and the amount of time it takes as well it is achievable that we can commit to it every week.

But even with that, I don't think we'd come if there wasn't progress and it is clear to see the progress, from running, six months after I started coming here, probably before, I realised my running was getting better.

I was getting faster, and I was running for longer. I started to use muscles that I wasn't aware that I had before. And I got a number of PB's whilst I was out running. And so seeing that progress every time, it gets you hooked.'

How do you find working with a fit20 Personal Trainer?
'For somebody that hadn't done strength before you don't know your limits. It would be so easy to stop 20 seconds, or a rep or two before without somebody that's pushing you to reach your limit; it's almost as if the trainer knows you better than you know yourself. And so there's a level of accountability that you really want to do your best and you can't give up or you won't give up until you absolutely have to.'

So why do you continue to do fit20 every week?
'In the short term the immediacy after it, you do get hit by those endorphins, which do make you feel good about it.

I've been coming for four years and there's some of the machines that I’m still making slow progress and still going to higher weights. And that gives me a sense of achievement. But I think it is still making my running stronger.'

Were you sceptical about fit20?
'There's not too many people that might be more cynical than I was. And I have to be honest, when I first went, it was probably just to appease the other half, but very quickly you see the gains that you made; my body was a different shape than it had been. I noticed muscles there that didn't exist before. It was a good thing.

So the maths and science geek that I am, I can't help but look at the science behind it. And it's fascinating stuff - why it's working and how it's working. But I think even if we didn't have the science, I'd still be able to see and feel the gains, but it's also useful to know why it's working and that it is working.'
